STUNNING ANTIQUE FRENCH COUNTRY COMTOISE CLOCK c1900
This is a very good example of a French comptoise clock dating from the late 19th century, circa 1890,
with handpainted flowers and hand carved decoration to the case which is in very good
condition and with a wonderful ornamental coloured brass pendulum and surround around the clock face.
The enamel face is in perfect condition with original brass hands. The name on the clock face,
which is most probably the retailer's rather than the maker's,
reads 'P. Lafarge fils' (P Lefarge & Sons) with 'Premier Qualite Garantie' above the name
and 'a Belves' (from Belves) below. Belves is a village in the Dordogne region of France.
It comes with its original key and is a 'repeat striker' - when the hour strikes it repeats the strike a minute later.
There are some old woodworm holes - long since gone and the case has been fully treated
with a woodworm preventative as a matter of course.
It measures 234cms tall x 48 cms wide.
